Abstract

This pedagogical handout on Applied Linguistics is designed for Master 1 students in the Department of English Language and Literature and aims to provide a deep understanding of different language structures, with English as a central focus. The material is presented over two semesters divided into six main chapters. The primary educational objectives include cultivating analytical thinking for deciphering semantic changes, promoting a profound interpretation of lingual output based on grammar rules, and establishing a sensible correlation between languaculture and communicative capacity within schema theory. The first semester concentrates on fundamental concepts such as the nature of Applied Linguistics, the process of language learning and acquisition, language transfer, interlanguage, and semantic barriers like bypassing. The second semester shifts focus to the various branches of Applied Linguistics and the study of figures of speech.
